TS-Gabion

Area of Application

Wire gabion boxes are used for various bank stabilization applications including water course training, bank scour protection, earth retention structures and architectural components.

Double Twisted

Standard gabion boxes are made from 80/100/3.0 hexagonal wire mesh and are available in zinc or zinc-aluminum galvanized or zinc-aluminum with PVC coating.

Gabion Packages

Gabions are available in a large variety of standard sizing depending on project requirements. They are shipped as flattened mats in stacks and are assembled on-site.

Construction

They are constructed by connecting adjacent faces with either c-rings (hog rings) or a sewing wire. Often local material is used to fill the baskets, though care should be taken to use suitable material.

Embankments

The modular nature of gabions allows for the creation of various forms which allows for a more controlled construction compared to the use of rip rap. They also are more tolerant to subsidence than rigid mitigation measures such as concrete structures, as well as significantly less expensive.

Retaining Walls

The use of gabions to construct retaining walls is common practice. Most often they are battered or stepped back with the slope, especially for walls of significant height. They are simple to construct, aesthetically pleasing, and free-draining.
