Project Description

The production process of aluminium profiles mainly includes three processes: casting, extrusion and colouring. The surface treatment should be carried out, to increase the corrosion resistance and abrasion resistance of aluminium profiles. The main surface treatment methods are anodizing, electrophoresis, and electrostatic coating. And electrostatic coating can be divided into powder coating and fluorocarbon coating (PVDF Coating). The main differences between them are as follows:

Powder Coating

Raw Material: polyurethane, polyurethane resins, epoxy resins, hydroxyl polyester resins and epoxy/polyester resins. They are available in a variety of colours.

Spraying equipment has manual and automatic hanging. The way it works is too simple, and the coating thickness is more than 30 microns. It has good performance in anti-impact, anti-friction, anti-corrosion, and weather fastness. What’s more, it’s cheaper.

Its main drawback is that it cannot be exposed to the sun for long periods of time, which will cause the surface to fade naturally. As time goes on, there will be a significant colour difference between the positive and non-positive surface of the profile.

Test Standard: ASTM D 3451-06 Standard guide for test coating powder and powder coating

PVDF Coating

Raw Material: Coatings made from polyvinylidene fluoride resin nCH2CF2 baking (CH2CF2)n(PVDF) as the base material or with metal aluminium powder as the colour material, Fluorocarbon matrix is chemically bonded by fluorine/carbonization whole bond.

The performance of PVDF coating determines that the spraying equipment must have an excellent atomizing effect to ensure the uniformity of the coating. The distribution of metal particles in fluorocarbon coatings directly affects the appearance of the coatings. PVDF coating of uniform and excellent quality has a metallic luster, bright colour and strong three-dimensional sense.

PVDF coating has excellent anti-fading, anti-frosting and anti-air pollution (acid rain, etc.) corrosion due to its stable chemical properties and good adhesion effect. At present, it is mainly used in aircraft, ships, building curtain walls, high-grade doors and Windows, etc.

Summary

No matter what you choose between powder coating and PVDF coating, you really need an aluminium extrusion supplier who can be your partner in the production process. At Hoonly, we are very proud of your technical resource partner. We will try our best to help you select the practical surface treatment, but not the most expensive one.
