You don’t know how to make a bird cage with wire. So read this article patiently, because now we are going to discuss in detail how to make a birds nest with wire mesh.

Step 1: Make a design of the cage and decide how big it will be

Take one page of the paper and a pencil, make a design as you wish. Whether the cage looks small or large will depend on the size of the bird. So consider the size of the bird.

  •  Smaller birds such as Anna Hummingbird and Northern Mockingbird may well live in a 24 in or 61 cm square cage.
  • Medium birds such as the American Robin and the Western Tanger may well live in 35 or 89 cm square cages.
  • Larger birds, such as parrots and mourning pigeons, may well live in 60 or 150 cm square cages.

The size of your cage will depend on the number of birds, if you are thinking of keeping one bird in the same cage, you need to determine the size of the cage by multiplying the number of birds by the size mentioned above.

Step 2: Collect bird cage building materials

Wire mesh is the main ingredient in making bird cages. Because all five sides of the cage have to be surrounded by this wire. One more piece of material needed to make a cage with wire mesh is a piece of wood, a steel nail, and a food container.

The thickness of the wire should be taken into consideration considering the size of the bird. Otherwise, you will see that the birds will want to go out with two-wire fucks. This will break the feathers of the birds and the birds will get sick.

  • In the case of small birds, it is better to use a wire thickness of 1.3 cm or 0.5 inches.
  • Medium birds, it is better to use a wire thickness of 1.9 cm or 0.75 inches.
  • For large birds, it is better to use a wire thickness of 2.5 cm or 1 inch.

Now buy 6 pieces of wire mesh the size of your cage. Do not paint the net purchased for the cage, keep the original color of the net so that the birds feel comfortable in the cage.

Then buy some nails based on the size of the cage, such as 100 U-shaped steel nails and 20-25 ordinary steel nails to make the cage at home.

Finally, you need to take a piece of wood the size of the bottom of the cage. Because the wire mesh in the lower part can cut the toes of the birds or it may be difficult to keep the food container, so wood should be used in the lower part to keep the birds healthy. Lick the ashes well from the piece of wood so that the legs of the birds do not get hurt.

Step 3: Make the frame according to the design

The square-shaped cages are quite suitable for birds. To make a square raw, 4 pieces of the same size 5.1 cm wide wood should be used to make a strong frame. Use U-shaped nails in each corner to attach the wood. The corners are much stronger when you use U-shaped nails.

You can also make a rectangular cage if you want. In that case, you have to take 2 pieces of wood of the same size and 2 pieces of smaller size. Then attach the long sticks to the corners with 2 lengths and 2 short widths with U-shaped nails.

Make 5 more frames like this to complete the cage. These will come in handy on all four sides and at the bottom of your cage. Make sure that the hammer falls on your hand in any way while nailing.

Step 4: Attach the wire mesh to the frame according to the size

Use small nails to attach the wire mesh to the frame. Make sure your mesh and frame are the same sizes. Set the mesh in the frame so that the mesh is in a tight position. Then attach it to the frame with nails at a distance of 2.5 cm per mesh.

If the nets are set according to the instructions above, the bird will not be able to get out of the cage even if it wants to. In addition, the cat will not be able to break the cage because it is strong, this will keep your bird safe. Now attach the mesh to the rest of the frames in the same way.

Step 5: Make a door

To make the door for the bird, cut the wire mesh in the middle of a frame. If your bird is small, cut it into 10 cm or 4-inch squares and if it is large, cut it into 20 cm or 6-inch squares. Wear gloves between the hands when cutting the wire mesh, otherwise, the hand may get cut due to the wire.

Step 6: Attach the cut wire mesh to the specified place for the door

Replace the wire mesh cut in the previous step with a new mesh. If you cut 4 inches, place a 6-inch, 6-inch cut 10-inch mesh on the spot and attach one side of the mesh in such a way that you can open or close it. Use a lock on the other side of the net.

So, you can easily open this door when you want to feed the bird or keep other birds. Other times keep it off.

Step 7: Join the frames using nails

Previously created frames now have to be integrated with one another. Whenever you attach the frames, make sure that they sit side by side on top of each other, otherwise, you will lose the beauty of the cage. When attaching the frame, nail every 1 inch in the middle of the wood so that the nails do not come out of the wood. The whole frame can take up to 24 nails in total.

Step 8: Attach a piece of wood to the bottom of the cage

After attaching the frames, the task now is to place the measured wood at the bottom of the cage in a specific place. This will help the birds to walk in the lower part of the cage and you can easily keep it clean. Be careful when planting the wood so that the dead nails do not get inside the cage.

Step 9: Arrange pots inside the cage for food and water

We have completed the steps of making the cage with wire mesh. Now if you add a bowl of food and a bowl of water, it will be useful to keep birds. If you want, you can take two beautiful-looking bowls from the bird shop. Remember to have two bowls in two corners, this will make it easier for the birds to eat and the food will be less wasted.
